Obituary for Lidia Ignakiewicz

Lidia Ignakiewicz
Lidia Ignakiewicz passed away peacefully at age 72, on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 12:04am, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was a loving wife of Stan Ignakiewicz, beloved Mom of Malgosia (Dan) DeAngelis and amazing grandmother to Kayla and Luca. A dear sister of Anna Bouchacourt and sister-in-law to François Bouchacourt. Lidia also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Krystyna Wierzbowska and her nieces and nephews, as well as Lisa DeAngelis and family who will miss her dearly. She's predeceased by her parents Maria (1995) and Jan (1963) Krumholz, and brother Aleksander (1998) Krumholc.

Lidia was born in Łancut, Poland, a town she took great pride to originate from, as it was the settlement of royalty. At a young age of 18, she lost her father, but still tried to pursue studies in dentistry, as she dreamed of becoming a dentist. Unfortunately, she was unable to do so.
Lidia immigrated to Canada with her 11 year old daughter at the time. They lived in Austria for 9 months prior to reuniting with her husband. It was a very difficult time for the three of them. Nonetheless, she had a very strong bond with her daughter. Lidia was a devout Catholic, who not only practised her faith, but instilled it upon her daughter from the very beginning. She also encouraged her to study and even chose her career path, that followed in her footsteps. Malgosia will always remember the biggest life lesson Mamuś taught her. "Show gratitude for the kindness of others", which Lidia always did.
Despite all the life's challenges, Lidia and Stan celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary just last year. They were always there for each other through thick and thin. Stan adored Lidia and was there for every step of her illness. He did whatever would help or make her happy and comfortable. They loved travelling everywhere together. In their early days, they drove, camped and went boating. As they got older, they enjoyed cruises and flying places. Nothing brought them more joy then their family, their only daughter Malgosia, son in law Dan and grandchildren Kayla and Luca. Lidia loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was there for them from their first moments until now. She adored and cherished every moment she spent with them, all their joys and accolades. She was so proud of them, her daughter and her son in law.
Lidia was a very determined woman. She was courageous and so strong through her 15 year battle with cancer. Her endurance set an example not only for her only daughter but for her grandchildren to persevere no matter what life throws at you. She will always live in our hearts. We love you Mamuś and Babi forever.
Special thanks to the team of doctors, nurses and staff at Mt. Sinai Hospital especially Dr. Pamela Goodwin, Dr. Ana Lohmann, Lynn Thibaudeau, and Velita Contiga. Donations can be made to Sinai Health System care of (c/o) Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre.
