I was deeply saddened to hear of John's passing, but comforted knowing that Elaine has the support she will need as and when she is able to take tentative steps to move forward. As a young Banker, I emigrated with my first wife to Peterborough, Ontario, where we soon became good friends with John and Elaine. Moving back to the UK in 1972, I soon got immersed into International Banking and moved to the United States, raised a family and so on. I did not see John and Elaine again until 2014, when i visited my many cousins in Lindsay, Ontario along with my 2nd wife (Moira), following a holiday in the Maritimes. As my cousins had arranged for John and Elaine to visit as a surprise, the years just peeled back when the seeds of recognition eventually sunk in!! My next visit to Canada was in December 2015, following Moira's premature death in a freak accident. I stayed with John and Elaine for a few days before proceeding to Lindsay, to spend Christmas with my Canadian family. I knew that John was unwell, but those few days with such wonderful people from my past, had a profound effect on how i started to deal with my grief. John and I went for a long walk around the lake and I felt then, as I do today, somehow spiritually uplifted. John's calm and considered approach to matters, was so darn refreshing! His memory is with me and along with Elaine, part of the tight group of family and friends, I feel blessed to have in my life.
