Obituary for Eleanor Crust (Lee)

CRUST, Margaret Eleanor (Nee Lee)

March 2, 1929 – June 9, 2018

Eleanor passed peacefully after a long illness, aged 89 years. Only child of S. Alfred and Evelyn E. Lee. Predeceased by her loving husband, Murray Crust. Mother of Barbara Walton (James Smith) and Douglas Crust (Athina Tarkhanian). Nana to Joseph Walton and Stuart Crust.

Eleanor and Murray built up a good and comfortable life together from very little. They began travelling, long before it was fashionable. This became a life-long avocation as Eleanor was fascinated by different cultures, languages, monuments and landscapes. She continued travelling around the world into her senior years. Eleanor loved her family, and her dear friends, above everything else. Raising her family, visiting with her grandchildren, and serving in many small ways in her community (through PTA, local community groups and her church) was Eleanor’s life’s work. She shared many valuable life lessons with her children (and husband) including why women can and should sometimes drive like Mario Andretti, how to corner and crate your cat to go to the farm for the summer, and why you should always buy Tiny Tom Donuts when visiting the CNE. We learned that her observations were invariably correct and looked for her guidance in many things. Although our family is small in numbers it is very strong, in no small way due to everything she taught us.

In her final years, Eleanor was the personification of the Lee family motto: “Bear and Forebear”. She fought the good fight against the health issues facing her and her strength of spirit and sheer determination to go forward another day contributed to her longevity. Our special thanks go to her best friend, Susan Patram, and also the doctors, nurses, care staff and administrators of the Village of Erin Meadows who provided her with so much love and care. We love you always, Mom!
